It's so good to hear your voice and to think through this powerful parable with you. I particularly appreciated the Buechner quotation about seeing us both with terrible clarity and as whole. And thanks, too, for sharing the sculpture with us. Ever since reading Nouwen's little book a number of years ago about Rembrandt's painting of the prodigal's return, I have had a deep attraction to works which attempt to capture something of this moving story in various media. Finally, I was struck by your suggestion that part of what the elder son fails to see is the suffering of the father.
